The Global Research Institute (GLORI Foundation) explores solutions to a whole range of globally significant health and social issues such as gender-based violence, HIV/AIDS, COVID, STIs, TB, Hepatitis C, drug use, malnutrition, mental health and others. Health systems reform is also a focus of the GLORI Foundation, as is the promotion of policies and programs to improve access to medical services and improved health outcomes.
The GLORI Foundation integrates the efforts and experience of international and Kyrgyzstan-based universities and research centers, and creates an efficient environment for cooperation between governmental, non-governmental and academic institutions. Such cooperation supports the efforts of researchers to develop culturally informed, evidence-based research upon which to build pragmatic and feasible programs. All studies and projects that GLORI Foundation is involved in, are aimed at improving the quality of life of people in Central Asian countries.
The GLORI Foundation was established as a local NGO and registered with the Kyrgyz Ministry of Justice in 2011. It is managed by a team of experts working in the areas of HIV, global health and social work, and is headed by Danil Nikitin and Aleksandr Pugachev. The GLORI Foundation partners with multiple governmental and non-governmental agencies, in Kyrgyzstan and abroad, including the Global Health Research Center of Central Asia in Kazakhstan and the PRISMA Research Center in Tajikistan. It is a unique network of institutions developing evidence-based, sustainable solutions and integrating them into policies, programs and systems of care in the areas of gender-based violence, HIV and other global issues.
Our studies are quite applicable, as we employ state-of-the-art methodologies and innovative technologies that make our results actionable, while working in the following areas:
- Improving the quality and accessibility of health services: GLORI is a results-oriented institution dedicated to improving the lives and health of the most vulnerable groups in Kyrgyzstan and Central Asia. Through partnership with most reputable governmental and non-governmental agencies, we act to change out-of-date policies and approaches and to convert our research findings into practical programs with the capacity to improve the quality of health and social services.
- Advancing a multi-sectoral approach to global health issues: GLORI fosters conditions for cooperation between researchers and practitioners in various spheres with the aim of developing innovative, evidence-based, and implementable solutions to global health issues. This multi-sectoral approach facilitates improved learning and curricula that focus on global health and social issues.
- Scaling-up from a national to a global approach towards health issues: GLORI considers migration, drug trafficking, and epidemics in Central Asia, not regional or national issues, but global issues. Their impact is not limited to a particular country’s borders — they need global solutions. The GLORI Foundation’s regional partnership network allows leading experts in multiple spheres to collaboratively work out feasible and effectively solutions to global health issues.
- Developing regional research infrastructure and research capacity: Through its activity and sponsored projects, the GLORI Foundation supports research capacity development in Kyrgyzstan and other countries in Central Asia, and contributes to the goal of having a regional research infrastructure capable of responding to modern global health and social challenges. Through high quality research, the GLORI Foundation will strengthen Kyrgyzstan’s capacity in identifying and developing efficient preventive and treatment programs and interventions focusing on the issues of gender-based violence, TB, HIV and other health and social issues.
