Why is this okay to start family with crime in Kyrgyzstan?
In Bazar-Korgon district of Jalal-Abad province of Kyrgyzstan, there was criminal case initiated in connection with abduction of a girl to compel her to marriage. Ainur, “married” against her will, is simply kidnapped. To rescue 20-year-old girl from undesired marriage was possible only after broadly covering this issue in mass media. According to human rights’ activists, 12 thousand brides are kidnapped annually. Thousands are subject to sexual abuse, and some commit suicide. According to official statistics, with a population of three million women in the country about 150 thousand have been in the role of the kidnapped brides. In 2013, Kyrgyzstan has tightened the punishment for this crime.
